JeopardyLabs

This is Jeopardy! If you remember the famous game with host Alex Trebek, then you may want to give JeopardyLabs a try. As mentioned on their site, although they are not affiliated with Jeopardy® or any other company, you’ll probably feel like you traveled back in time. You can create a Jeopardy game or find one from the 5 million or so and counting. Learn more at JeopardyLabs.com.

What is the benefit of this tool?
This is a good team based tool. Interactive, get the game vibes going, but also assess to see how much information your students understand and retained. Also, it is a little different than the other more technology oriented tools (I.e. Kahoot!) so students may appreciate the extra effort.

What is the disadvantage of this tool?
You may need some technical acumen, but nothing too serious. A frequently asked questions is provided and the process of creating the game seems pretty straightforward. Lastly, no Jeopardy music associated with it, but there are ways you can add your own.

Is there a cost associated with this tool?
The free version is sufficient. There is a lifetime membership and as of this post it was $20. There are additional features that the membership unlocks and the main one is that you can make your game private. If you utilize only the free version, your game is public and can be used by others.

Thoughts…
You can have buzzers to help you to call on individuals as I’ve noticed that with game based learning, you’ll have to deal with the competitiveness of some individuals. Keep this in mind if you decide to associate points with this game and make sure all rules are explained in advance prior to starting the game. No additional devices are needed except the one main machine you’ll be using to host the game. I recommend a strong and reliable internet connection, especially if you decide to include videos, audio, or pictures in the game.
